Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne today denied any knowledge of the man who goes by the alias ‘Hula’ who is alleged to be the man behind the Salaka Gambling Den located in Town Hall. Jayaratne stated this when questioned by DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka in parliament today.

Dissanayaka challenged the government to reveal the figure behind the gambling den and also cancel the transfer orders of the police officials who carried out the raid on the den on November 4. Denying any knowledge of ‘Hula’, Jayaratne stated that the transfer order could not be cancelled as the officers have allegations of misconduct against them.

Certain branches of media reported that the gambling centre had the blessings of the wife of politician and was run by a man with the alias ‘hula’. The illegal gambling centre, which has been operating at Town Hall, was raided by a team attached to the Organized Crimes Investigations Division (OCID) of the Police and 43 suspects were apprehended on November 4. However, the 23 police officers who took part in the raid were ordered to be transferred before even 48 hours had passed since the raid.
