The UNP will oppose the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accepting an invitation by Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneshwaran to visit Sri Lanka after he rejected the Presidents invitation to take part in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, UNP MP John Amaratunga stated.

The UNP MP stated this in parliament today (December 2) while citing media speculation that the Indian PM is to visit Sri Lanka on the invitation of the Northern Chief Minister.

He claimed that this was part of an effort to weaken ties between the two nations.
