New army recruit hangs himself in training camp

A newly recruited army soldier undergoing training has committed suicide by hanging himself within the premises of a training camp in Puttalam, police said.
The deceased, B.T. Shehan, a resident of Thitthagala in Ahangama, was undergoing training under the Puttalam Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
He had informed the army officers in charge of training exercises that he is unwell for the past couple of days.
However, fellow soldiers discovered his body hanging from a Margosa tree this morning while he had used rope provided for soldier uniforms as a noose.
A postmortem examination is to be conducted.
