VIDEO: Providing relief for people only a dream for govt - UNP

The government which in the past enticed certain “big fish” of the United National Party to cross over has now resorted to even “reeling in sprat” from opposition parties, in order to cover up its inabilities and incompetence, the UNP Spokesman said.

After doing so, the government is also attempting to give a lot of publicity to it, MP Gayantha Karunatileka said.

Now government Ministers and MPs have started to say that the people will vote for them no matter what dirty acts they engage in, he told reporters in Colombo today.

Karunatileka called on the government to reveal to the country the victories it achieved by hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), at a cost billions of taxpayer money.

It has been several months since CHOGM was held, but the government has still not been able to reveal the total cost of hosting the summit, he said.

The people are suspicious about what actually happened to the luxury vehicles imported to the country for the Commonwealth summit, he said.

“It is clear to us that providing relief for the people today is nothing but a dream under the Rajapaksa government,” Karunatileka said.

He charged that the UPFA government, which boasted about Mathata Thitha (full stop to tobacco and alcohol), has destroyed the country and that heroin has spread everywhere.

The UNP Spokesman questioned whether illegal drugs have become the main import of the ruling government.
