All investigations concerning protests and demonstrations related to religion will be handed over to the Religious Affairs Ministry, the Police stated.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the Ministry will be informed of this today (January 13).

A protest was held yesterday (January 12) by a group calling themselves the “Hela Bodhu Pawura” on Galle Road in the Hikkaduwa area against a Christian establishment.

A tense situation broke out between the protesters and the Police during the demonstration.

However, the Hikkaduwa police will conduct primary investigations concerning this incident.
