Suspect arrested over murder of Mel Gunasekera

The suspect in the murder of journalist Mel Gunasekera was arrested at Dompe by Inspector of Police Karunaratne of the Mirihana Special Crimes Unit, the Police Spokesman stated.

The senior business journalist, Mel Gunasekara was found dead today with injuries caused by a sharp weapon at her residence in Battaramulla, police said.

Gunasekera, who specialised in Business Studies from the University of East London, had worked as a Correspondent for the international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), covering economic and political affairs in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Her family members had reportedly returned to the two-story house in Gemunu Mawatha, Battaramulla after visiting church this morning and found her dead on the floor.
