Fire destroys 20 homes in Wellampitiya

Around 20 houses have been destroyed after a fire broke out and spread through a row of houses at Estate No. 101 in Nagahamulla, Wellampitiya today, police said.

The flames were successfully extinguished in a joint effort by the fire brigade, municipal council, police and residents in the area, the Police Spokesman’s Office said.

The casualties have been reported from the fire, which erupted at around 3.35pm today, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
