Vijaya College principal arrested for taking bribe

The principal of Vijaya College Matale has been arrested today for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 150,000 in order to admit a Grade 2 student into the school, the Bribery Commission said.

The suspect, who was arrested officials while accepting the bribe, will be produced at the Matara Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (25), a spokesman for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption told Ada Derana.

Earlier today, officials of the Bribery Commissions arrested the principal of the Matara Uyanwatta Primary Model School on bribery charges.

He had sought a bribe of Rs 53 250, to allegedly purchase 75 floor tiles, from a parent seeking to admit his daughter into the school, the Director general of the Bribery Commission, Lakshmi Jayawardena told Ada Derana.
