Death of Deputy Minister’s Secretary not suicide

The cause of death of the Coordinating Secretary of a Deputy Minister on Thursday has been confirmed as suffocation after the consumption of alcohol, by Chilaw medical examiner.

The deceased, Gamini Ranasinghe, 52, from Serukele in Anamaduwa was serving as the Coordinating Secretary of the Deputy Minister of Coconut and Janatha Estate Development, Victor Anthony Biyanwila, prior his death.

He was admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital on Wednesday (26) night by relatives, claiming that he had consumed poison.

However, he passed away on Thursday and the postmortem examination was conducted by the Assistant Judicial Medical Officer of the Chilaw Hospital.

It has been uncovered that the deceased had consumed medication for high blood pressure and diabetes prior to his death and alcohol afterwards.  
 
Earlier it was reported that the cause of death had been poison and that he had committed suicide.
