Two persons including one female suspect were arrested in the Narangwela area in Meegahawatta in possession of petrol bombs and several other weapons, police stated.

Police reported that a raid had been conducted on a house in the area after the Panadura-Walana Anti-Corruption Unit had received a tip-off.

Police found eight petrol bombs, a sword, a machete, five iron poles, a sharpened knife and a fake wooden gun in the house.

Initial investigations indicated that the male and female suspects had stored the weapons in order to commit a crime on a later date.

The suspects will be produced before the Mahara Magistrate Court today (March 19).

Three students were also arrested concerning the incident and were released by police after being questioned.
