Mahindananda released on bail

Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who has been charged with assaulting a CWC supporter, has been ordered to appear before the Hatton Magistrates’ Court on September 09, after he was released on bail today.

A case had been filed against the Minister after Watawala Police received a complaint alleging that he had assaulted a supporter of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress, at Templestove Estate in Rozalla on August 08, 2013 during the Central Provincial Council election period.

The assault victim had reportedly received treatment at the Watawala Hospital for several days prior to being discharged.

Minister Aluthgamage was released on a surety bail of Rs 50,000 and a personal bail of Rs 25,000 by Hatton District Judge and Magistrate Amila Ariyasena today.
