Popular TV and cinema actresses Anarkali Akarsha and Nadeesha Hemamali, who contested for the Southern Provincial Council from the Matara District, have been unable to secure a seat at the council due to receiving insufficient preference votes at the PC polls.

Former Southern Provincial Councillor Anarkali Akarsha, who contested from the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), obtained only 8,842 votes at the election.

Meanwhile Nadeesha Hemamali, who contested from the United National Party (UNP), has received only 11,006 preference votes.
