The Vice Chancellor of the Rajarata University and several lecturers were taken hostage by a group of university students, who had surrounded the VC’s office and prevented them from leaving.

Around 300 students were reportedly outside the vice chancellor’s officer demanding the lifting of suspension imposed on 13 fellow students.

Meanwhile it has been reported that riot police were called in to free the persons held hostage and restore normalcy within the university premises.

Security in and around the Rajarata University has currently been tightened due to this, Ada Derana reporter said.
