Five nabbed with fake currency notes

Five persons including four women traveling in a van have been arrested by police after one of them was found to be in the possession of several counterfeit currency notes in the Kurunegala area.

Kurunegala Police, acting on a tip-off, searched the van and found 20 counterfeit notes of the Rs 2,000 denomination and 6 fake notes of the Rs 5,000 denomination with the male passenger.

Four other women who were traveling in the van along with the suspect were also placed under custody in connection with the incident.

The suspects are to be produced at the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today while police are conducting further investigations.
