Strong winds expected in Bay of Bengal

The Department of Meteorology says that strong winds at times (up to 60kmph) can be expected over the sea areas off the Northern and Northeastern coast and that winds speed can strengthen up to 70-80kmph at times in the Bay of Bengal.
Showers or thunder showers will occur in the Northern sea areas and showers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island. Winds will be Southwesterly and the speed will be 20-40 kmph, it said.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankesanthurai and the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil may be rough at times as winds can strengthen up to 50-60kmph.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts particularly during the morning.
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.

On the apparent southward relative motion of the Sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August and 07th of September in this year, it said.
The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun will overhead tomorrow (30th), are Toddaveli, Nayinamadu and Kokkilai about 12:12 noon
