Two persons were sentenced to death by the Galle High Court today after they were found guilty in the murder of three members of the same family in 2002 at an estate bungalow in the Homagala estate, Udugama, Galle.

A field officer, his son and wife were stabbed to death with sharp objects on February 12, 2002 at the Homagala estate.

Udugama police found the bodies of Sunil Jayaweera, Nisansala Jayaweera and Harsha Jayaweera inside their house on February 13 while their home was ransacked.

The suspects had reportedly broken in during a power cut, unseen by anyone, as the house is located in the middle of the estate and a considerable distance away from other houses.

The suspects were produced before the court today as their sentences were handed by Judge Padma Palihakkara.
