Kandy National Museum closed from 15 Sept.

The Kandy National Museum will be closed to the public from 15 September to 31 December, for renovation and preservation activities, the Department of National Museums has announced.

The Government Information Department quoted as saying that the Department regrets any inconvenience which may be caused to the public.

This building had been built during Sri Wickrama Rajasingha era (1798-1815). 

It was then known as “Palle Vahala” and was used as the palace where the Queens of the king lived. This was opened for the public as a museum 1942. This museum houses over 5000 museum objects which are depicting various aspects historical and cultural events of the Kandyan period. (17-19 century A.D.)
