A woman has been sentenced to 8 years rigorous imprisonment by the Kebithigollewa Magistrate’s Court for abandoning her 4-year-old son at a forest.

Kebithigollewa Magistrate Raja Sirimewan Mahendra Raja imposed the sentence on the woman, a resident of Handagala Road in Kebithigollewa.

The child’s father had also reportedly refused to take care of the boy, who was abandoned at a forest.

Therefore he too was ordered remanded until October 11 by the magistrate.
