Two dead after earth mound collapses

Two persons were killed after an earth embankment collapsed on a house at Samanpura in Olugamthota, Balangoda.

Police said that two men, a 45-year-old and a 55-year-old, died from the incindet which occurred at around 3.15pm today.

Meanwhile residents of 60 homes have been evacuated in Ella, Kumbalwela and Kottagaswatta areas due to landslide risks.

Ella Divisional Secretary Samanthi Ranasinghe stated that the decision was taken after monitoring a landslide situation at the Bolwilagala Kanda.

The evacuated persons have been temporarily housed at the Dowa College.
