Democratic Party (DP) Western Provincial Councilor and actor, Nalin Pradeep Udawela, today claimed that the government attempted to “buy” first and promised to pay Rs 50 million, to crossover to the ruling party.

He alleged that the government even assured that his entire family would be given citizenship either in Canada, Australia or Nederland and if required a post as Homagama Co-Organiser.

A well-known Sri Lankan stage, television and cinema actor, Udawela made these revelations during a press conference today (11) regarding the recent crossover of three Democratic Party Provincial Councilors who had pledged support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Susil Kindelpitiya, a Western Provincial Council member of the same party, also speaking during the media briefing, stated that the regime has gone bankrupt to such an extent that it has resorted to buying out members of the Democratic Party.

The party, led by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, says it would take legal action against the Provincial Councilors for crossing over after being elected by the people who are against the government.
