The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, Southern and Central provinces while heavy showers (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places.

Thundershowers will develop elsewhere during the afternoon or evening as well, it said, adding, that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Meanwhile sluice gates of several reservoirs in the Anuradhapura District have been opened as water levels reach overflow limit due to prevailing inclement weather conditions in the area.

Therefore sluice gates of Rajanganaya and Angamuwa reservoirs have been opened while the excess water is being released to Kala Oya, Ada Derana reporter said.

Sluice gates of Tisa Wewa, Mahawilachchiya and Thuruwila lakes have also been opened.

The water levels of Nachchaduwa, Nuwara Wewa, Hurulu Wewa, Mahakanadarawa and Padawiya reservoirs have also risen rapidly.
