Customs seize four million cigarettes

Four million illegally imported cigarettes have been seized by the Sri Lanka Customs, this morning.

The approximate street value of the cigarette haul is over Rs. 130 million, according to Customs Media Spokesperson, Leslie Gamini.   

“This consignment was declared as washing powder consigned to a false name of a BOI company located in Giriula. The evaded payment of duty and other levies is over Rs. 240 million. On the examination, over 4,400,000 sticks of banned cigarettes were found,” he added.
