The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today issued notice on the Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran and his son-in-law Arjun Aloysius to appear before the court on October 30, over a petition filed regarding the controversial Treasury Bond issue.

The petition was filed by UPFA Provincial Councillor Renuka Perera seeking a court order summoning the CB Governor and his son-in-law, who is a major shareholder of Perpetual Treasuries, in connection with the misuse of Rs 30 billion acquired in the process of auctioning Government Treasury Bonds by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The Court was also informed by the Plaintiff that, on or about 27 February 2015, an issue of 30-year Treasury Bonds valued at Rs 1 Billion was declared and sans any public notification, the Central Bank had increased this amount to Rs 10 Billion.

The petitioner further stated that as a result of this transaction the government incurred a loss of Rs. 1393 million.

When the petition was taken up yesterday, Additional Magistrate Chandima Liyanage had said that the decision about issuing notices to the two defendants as per the request will be made today (12).
