Train engine drivers have called off their strike action which was launched against the alleged assault on an engine driver at the Ragama station yesterday, the Ministry of Transport said.

All trains on the main line were disrupted last night as a result of the tense situation which had prevailed at the Ragama railway station owing to the assault incident.

The Railway Control Room said that several scheduled office trains this morning were cancelled due to the strike action.

A group of engine drivers attached to the Electrical Power Coaches Shed (EPCS) had commenced the strike yesterday alleging that a fellow driver had been assaulted.
