Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he would congratulate President Maithripala Sirisena on the election victory on January 08, but not the ‘Yahapalanaya’ government.

He made the observation as he met reporters after paying homage to the Tooth Relic at Dalada Maligawa in Kandy this morning.

“I was defeated at the last Presidential election. However, I would certainly congratulate President Sirisena on the election victory. But, I’m unsatisfied with the work of Yahapalanaya government,” said Rajapaksa.

While responding to a question on reports that there is a move to arrest several key former government members, he said, “This is their government. They can arrest as much as they desire.” He also pointed out that ‘they’ are obliged to do what diaspora wanted.

“Some people wanted me out of the party,” the former President said. However, he vowed that he will never leave the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
