Programs to mark one year completion of Sirisena presidency

A series of programs will be held tomorrow (Jan. 08) to mark the one year completion of the democratic governance, established under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The main national ceremony on this regard will be held at 2.00pm at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, according to the President’s Media Division.

The key note address of this ceremony will be made by Mr. Gopalkrishna Gandhi, grandson of the pioneer of the Indian independence struggle Mahathma Gandhi. Mr Gandhi, a civil servant and a diplomat, served as Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, ministers, diplomats, intellectuals and artists will participate in this ceremony.

The academic book ‘One Nation – Great Power’, published to mark this historic occasion will also be launched during this ceremony.

In addition, a special religious program will be held tomorrow at 7.00am at the historical Kalutara Bodhi to bless President Sirisena, the government and the people of the country. The land of the Kalutara Bodhi will be handed over to the Board of Custodians of the Kalutara Bodhi through a charter.

A ceremony to mark the 117th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike will be held tomorrow at 9.00am at the Bandaranaike statue in Galle Face, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President is also scheduled to visit the Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya to pay a floral tribute to the late Most Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha thero.

The President will launch the “Tell the President” and “Janapathi  Hadabima” programs at 11.00 a.m. at the President’s House in Colombo tomorrow. Citizens can submit their complaints and grievances through the “Tell the President” program.

President Sirisena will declare open the Development Evaluation Office at the Presidential Secretariat tomorrow. The office was built to review the development activities that have commenced across the country and to check whether the advices and guidance given by the President for the betterment of the people, are properly implemented.

An all-night Pirith chanting will be held at the Presidential Secretariat tomorrow to mark the President’s completion of one year term in office.

On January 09 the President will address the Parliament at 10.30 a.m. and on the same day from 6.30 p.m to 8.00 p.m a Culture Show will be held at the Independence Square premises.

In addition to the above mentioned activities a photographic exhibition titled “ Janapathi Abhimangalawasara Seya Samaruma” will be held at the Arcade Independence Square, Colombo to mark the President’s completion of one year term in office, a PMD statement said.
