President has not made any political deals - Faiszer

Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha says that he is not of the view that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would do anything which would lead to the SLFP splitting. 

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (25). “He always wanted to protect the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). I’m of the view that Rajapaksa wouldn’t take any measures to sabotage our activities,” Musthapha added. 

He also went on to say the Government would not be able to hold the Local Government election any time soon owing to yet unexpected delays at the Delimitation Commission. 

“However, efforts were taken to hold the election as scheduled this year,” he said. 

He pointed out the greatest mistake he had ever made was his decision to vote in favour of the idea to impeach former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.

“My decision to endorse President Sirisena at the polls came in a bid to correct that mistake,” Musthapha said.

Responding to a question from journalists, he said that President Maithripala Sirisena has not made any “political deals” and that he only has deals with the people.
