UN Special Rapporteur on Torture likely to visit Sri Lanka

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture is likely to visit Sri Lanka this year, it was reported. 


According to the Sri Lanka Director at the International Crisis Group (ICG) Alan Keenan, Special Rapporteur Juan Mendez may visit Sri Lanka in the near future. 


“Great to hear Juan Mendez will be visiting Sri Lanka soon & offering his expert analysis & advice to Govt.” Keenan said in a twitter post. 


Juan Méndez was Special Advisor to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. He was also Co-Chair of the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute from 2010-2011.
