Media has become biggest threat to free media - PM

The biggest threats to the free media environment existing today is also coming from the media and not from anyone else, says Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He was speaking during an event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum in Colombo today.
Pointing to the headline of an English language newspaper, the PM charged that an LTTE revival is being falsely portrayed in an attempt to create an environment to get “King Dutugemunu” back.
“The LTTE is gone, it cannot return. No matter how much one cries the (LTTE) won’t come.”
Wickremesinghe said that if the terrorist organisation is indeed reviving then legal action should be taken against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa “for not finishing it like he said.”
