Adequate steps will be taken to double the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Sri Lanka by 2023, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says.

The observation was made while speaking at the May Day rally of the United National Party at the Campbell Park this afternoon (01).

The Prime Minister also went on to say there is no point of showing disapproval in the process of the development of the country in which they would seek assistance from the international community. Wickremesinghe also vowed not to increase taxes on essential items during the process.

“We will bring this country forward, yet first we have to remove explosive mines that were buried during the Rajapaksa regime,” he added.

The PM also added as the UNP rally drew a massive crowd, that would give a ‘good’ message to the ‘cardboard-heroes’ here and media organization that back them.

“There will be no room for family rule in this island nation as long as the UNP in power,”  Wickremesinghe said.
