The Government has lost over Rs. 145 billion due to the controversial bond issue, MP Bandula Gunawardena pointed out.

The observation was made while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (17).

He stressed the Government would not be able to cover up this lose even it intended to raise Rs 100 billion through the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).

“The Finance minister earlier vowed to strengthen rupee to 130 within a week. Yet it still remains at 148,” Gunawardena added. He also alleged the Government of maintaining an unplanned and unsuccessful economic management strategy.

The former Minister also urged the Government to appoint a Select Committee of Parliament to probe the controversial treasury bond issue.
