June 23, 2016   03:57 pm

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesting university students near the Kollupitiya Junction.

The protestors were reportedly attempting to forcibly march towards Temple Trees when they were met with riot police.

The protest march was staged by students of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura against the private medical college in Malabe and several demands.

The protest had caused severe traffic congestion along High Level Road while the entry lane of Galle Road was also closed from Kollupitiya due to this.
