COPE report on bond issue should be made public soon - JHU

June 30, 2016   03:32 pm

The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) says that the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) should release its report regarding the controversial Central Bank bond issue as immediately as possible as the people have a right to know the truth.

“Appointing a new Central Bank governor alone is not enough. The people should know the extent of the bond scam which took place and the losses it caused to the country,” JHU Spokesperson Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said.

He said that investigation should be carried out by the COPE committee and the people of the country expect a clear report from them on the matter.

Appointing a new Governor does not resolve the issue, he said, adding that the people have the right to know the information about the bond scam.

Warnasinghe said that President Maithripala Sirisena has clearly stated that a new Governor will be appointed to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and that through this it is evident that a considerable amount of facts have been confirmed regarding the allegations leveled against Arjuna Mahendran.
