National standards set for plugs and sockets

September 13, 2016   05:08 pm

A national standard has been set for plugs and socket outlets for non-industrial applications. It is effective from August 2018, the Public Utility Commission says.

Therefore, the government has decided that the type G plug and socket outlet, widely known as the 13 ampere plug and socket outlet or square pin plug is to be the only national standard in Sri Lanka.

This came as the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka has decided to create an enabling environment, issue the necessary regulations and facilitate the participation of other regulatory agencies to ensure that Sri Lanka systematically moves to using one type of plugs and socket outlets.
