President Maithripala Sirisena has agreed to appoint a special committee to study issues of private bus operators and to provide solutions based on the recommendations of the committee, the President’s Media Division said.
He assured that a committee comprising of all parties will be appointed to resolve the issues in the public transportation sector.
The President had expressed this during a meeting this morning (3) with private bus operators who were on strike yesterday in protest of the decision to increase traffic fines.
Meanwhile private bus trade unions say that the discussion with the President was a success and that they have decided to end their strike action.
The private bus strike has been called off as the President assured that there will be no increase in traffic fines without consulting the relevant parties, they said.
