The ongoing construction of the world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree has been halted, a Deputy Minister said Wednesday.

Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama said he would make an official statement on the decision during a press conference this afternoon.

The construction of the world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree at Galle Face Green also came under criticism yesterday after Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith urged the authorities to use the remaining money of the project on poor people as it would serve as a message.
