Rathana Thero to act as an independent MP

January 16, 2017   12:03 pm

MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero says he will act as an independent MP hereafter without affiliations to any political party.

The observation was made during a press conference held in Colombo on Monday.

However, Rathana Thero also apprised reporters that he has no intention of joining the opposition.

“I would form a broader national moment that could make an impact in a case of national crisis,” Thero added.

The Thero also went on to say he does not want to topple the government, but would not hesitate to criticize its activities. “We could never agree to the terms of the new draft Constitution. It is against the polices of the President. New Constitution will harm the unity of the country,” Thero said.

Rathana Thero was a leading member of the Jatika Hela Urumaya where he played a major role in defeating Mahinda Rajapaksa and making Maithripala Sirisena President.
