Showers expected in parts of the island from today

The Department of Meteorology says that showery weather, particularly in Northern and Eastern parts of the island, is expected from today.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North central, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district while fairly heavy falls (more than 75 mm) are also likely at some places.

The department says that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 pm.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places of the island during the morning particularly in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Fairly strong winds at times (about 50kmph) can be expected over the country, it added.
