7 interdicted over irregularities in Royal College Grade 1 admission

Seven education officials who served in the student admission board of Royal College Colombo including two deputy principals of the school have been interdicted in connection with an alleged irregularity in the enrolling of student to Grade 1. 

A special committee was appointed by Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to investigate the allegations while this decision was taken according to the findings of the committee.

A deputy principal, an assistant principal and a teacher of Royal College who were part of the main interview board for the Grade 1 intake have been interdicted in this manner. 

Members who served in the appeals board including the principal of the Kelaniya Dharmaloka College, a deputy principal of St. Paul’s Balika Vidyalaya in Milagiriya, a deputy principal and a teacher of Royal College have also been interdicted. 

In addition to this an employee of the school who submitted forged documents to enroll his son to Royal College has also been interdicted.

The Ministry of Education said that the incident is being further investigated and that inquiries are still ongoing pertaining to alleged irregularities at 15 popular schools in the country.
