July 29, 2020

‘Women For Rights’ organization launched a protest in front of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment today (July 29) against the recent tear gas attack by Jordanian security forces on Sri Lankan migrant workers.

Last week, nearly 340 Sri Lankan working in a garment factory in Alacara, Jordan created a tumultuous situation by protesting a group of officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy visiting the area to look into Sri Lankan migrant workers who lost their employment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Subsequently, the Jordanian Police had used tear gas on the protestors to deescalate the situation. Photos by: Eranga Perera
