New Zealand-bound boat people arrested in Negombo

A group of 18 individuals who attempted to illegally travel to New Zealand via sea route have been arrested by Sri Lanka Navy personnel this morning. 

The suspects were arrested in the Lellama area in Negombo following a joint operation by the police and navy.

Fifteen of the arrested persons are reportedly Tamils while the rest are Sinhalese.
