Wimal goes on a hunger strike

MP Wimal Weerawansa is reported to have launched a hunger strike in prison, protesting against the rejection of his bail application. 

The former minister says he has been kept in remand prison for 73 days now without being released on bail. 

Prisons Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya said that Weerawansa has been engaging in the protest fast refusing meals since this morning (22).
 
The UPFA MP, who was arrested on charges of misusing state vehicles, was further remanded till April 3 when the case was taken up yesterday (20) and his bail application was rejected. 
 
The National Freedom Front (NFF) leader was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) on January 10 after he arrived to give a statement pertaining to allegations of misusing state vehicles.

Weerawansa has been accused of misusing several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat Office, during his tenure as the Minister of Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, and thereby causing losses to the tune of Rs 41 million to the government
