We feel ashamed of the Govt- Dinesh Gunawardena

MP Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the Rs.100000 compensation offered by the government to the victims is a value the government should be ashamed about.

He further added that the government cannot consider this as a natural disaster, and that the 100,000 paid to the victims as compensation should be considered a spontaneous fee, rather than the whole value of the compensation,  during a press conference held today (19).

Gunawardena stated that as the compensation is paid by the average tax payer of the country, the government should do justice and pay the victims a decent sum.

Gunawardena expressed his disapproval by stating that the Colombo Municipal Council had not acted in accordance with standard garbage collecting procedures, and that they should take responsibility for the Meethotamulla tragedy.

The MP also stated that a letter was sent to the Speaker of Parliament yesterday (19), comprised of 7 factors regarding the recent tragedy. He revealed that the Speaker was willing to hold an emergency parliamentary debate regarding this issue.
