GMOA goes on strike
April 21, 2017 09:19 am
The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) stated that doctors in all government hospitals in the Polonnaruwa District will engage in strike action from 8.00 am today (21).
The health director of the Polonnaruwa district, failing executing the decision to cancel all the transfers of health personnel made to the Polonnaruwa hospital from Gampaha, has been cited as the cause of the strike.
The GMOA had said, during a media briefing held yesterday, that if a suitable response was brought about by today (21), they were willing to not carry on with the strike.
Furthermore, GMOA Assistant Secretary Dr Haritha Aluthge stated that discussions will be held between trade unions regarding the decision made by the ministers of higher education on the SAITM issue, as the solution they had put forward cannot be accepted.
