Additional security measures for May Day

A special security plan has been made for the Colombo and Kandy-based May Day processions and rallies, Police state.

According to Police Headquarters, the special security plan, to be executed under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police, focuses on the management of traffic and public movement.

Over 4765 Police officers have been deployed in Colombo for defense and traffic management, whereas over 3500 have been deployed in Kandy.

In addition to Police officers, Police Special Task Force officers, Army officers and Intelligence officers have also been assigned to duties.

Police Headquarters also stated that another network of surveillance cameras has been put in place, in addition to the CCTV camera network already in place in Colombo.
