Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) Chairman Professor Carlo Fonseka says that the Medical Council has been the target of seven attacks within the past 15 years since 2002.

He made these comments during a press conference held in Colombo today (18) with regard to the recent discovery of a hand grenade at the SLMC premises and the SAITM issue.

“This is the seventh attack on the medical council since 2002.” He said that what they have to assume from this is that it is an attempt to fulfill the desires of certain individuals by creating a fear for life.

“My age is 84. However, I will say that nobody will be able to fulfill their intentions by intimidating us,” Prof. Fonseka said.

“We only surrender to justice and dharma.” Not even the judiciary will be able to fulfill its intentions by intimidating us, he expressed.

“What is the new thing that happened to the Medical Council in the 21st century?”
