Six Indian fisherman arrested for crossing borders

The National Coastguards Department has arrested six Indian fishermen who had been illegally crossed international maritime boundaries. 

The incident occurred in the area under the surveillance of the Northern Naval command, where speed boats were deployed and arrests were made in the area north of Kovilan. 

The ‘Tolar’ boat used by the fisherman has been taken into the custody of the Sri Lankan coastguards. 

The Sri Lankan navy stated that the arrestees will be handed over to the Deputy Fisheries Office as soon as possible, for further investigation.
