The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has commenced an operation to clear the garbage trapped on the underside of the Pitabeddara Bridge in Akuressa.

Reports stated that a large amount of debris and logs had been trapped towards the lower end of the bridge, obstructing the water drainage.

As a result of this, the water level of the Nilwala River in Akuressa rose yesterday (28), causing more floods in the area, SLN said.

As soon as the incident came to light, 71 naval officers and 06 diving officers were dispatched by the SLN to mitigate the disaster.
