TV Derana wins award at Mashable World Social Media Day Awards - 2017

Sri Lanka’s most awaited event on the social media calendar Mashable’s annual Social Media Day is back for the sixth consecutive year in Colombo and TV Derana won the ‘Most Popular TV Channel on Social Media’ award at the awards ceremony, held in Colombo today.

 

Chatura Alwis of TV Derana won the ‘Most Popular Journalist on Social Media’ award at the event as well. Etisalat Lanka hosted the Mashable Social Media Day - 2017 which was held at the Excel World.

 

One of the most highly anticipated events on the social media calendar, the #SMDayCMB 2017 was listed among the events to attend around the world by Mashable.

 

On June 30, 2010, Mashable launched Social Media Day as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication.

 

Today, social media is the heart of global communication; and since its inception, Mashable’s been using social media to connect between cultures, movements and super-fandom.

 

TV Derana also became No.01 - YouTube channel in Sri Lanka last month according to statistics issued by the Socialbakers.

 

Derana Macroentertainment (Pvt) Ltd also won the award for “Best Digital-Integrated Campaign” in the Media and Publishing Sector at the SLT Zero One Awards for Digital Excellence.

 

The award was given for the Derana’s Virtual Reality project depicting the Mahindagamanaya, launched in Anuradhapura on Poson Poya Day in 2016 and sponsored by Anchor.
