The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today warned to launch a continuous strike if authorities take measures to end the term of Professor Carlo Fonseka as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC).

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the Health Minister has no mandate to remove the chief of the SLMC.

Dr. Aluthge also pointed out Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne is eyeing to appoint a pro-SAITM activist for the SLMC chairman post.

The Secretary further stated that not only the GMOA, but the President, the Prime Minister, the Archbishop of Colombo and the Maha Sanga too hold the same opinion about the SLMC chiarmanship.

Therefore, the GMOA warned to stage a continuous strike if the position of Professor Carlo Fonseka is replaced.
